Privacy Policy
Overview
This policy describes what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect only what we need to run FitCheck.
Information you provide
Account details (email, username, display name, birth date), profile data (photo, bio), and the content you post (photos, captions, comments, reactions, direct messages, group chat messages).
Information we collect automatically
Device and usage data such as app version, approximate session activity, and technical logs needed to diagnose problems and prevent abuse.
Product analytics (optional)
Analytics is off unless you switch it on. You are asked once during onboarding and can change your answer at any time in Settings → Privacy; declining costs you nothing in the app. When it is on, we measure six events so we can tell whether FitCheck works: creating an account, posting your first fit, posting a fit, giving a Check, reacting, and sending an invite. Each one carries only the kind of detail shown in the app itself, such as whether a fit was friends-only or public. We do not record your screen, we do not capture taps or page views automatically, and we never send photos, captions, messages, usernames or email addresses to our analytics provider. The provider is PostHog, on their European Union hosting, acting for us under contract. While analytics is off, nothing is collected and the analytics software is not even loaded.
How we use information
To operate the app, personalize your feeds, deliver messages, enforce our rules, secure accounts, and comply with legal obligations.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. Content you post is visible according to its audience (public, followers, group, or direct message). We use vetted service providers for hosting, storage, and analytics under confidentiality obligations.
Retention
We keep account data while your account is active. A posted fit stops being visible to others after 24 hours and stays in your own archive. When you request deletion your account becomes inactive immediately and a 30-day grace period starts, during which you can cancel. After it ends we delete your posts and their photos, then your account, except where retention is required by law or needed to handle an open safety report.
Location
FitCheck does not collect your location. There is no background tracking, and nothing reads your location because you opened a screen. If you tap “Use my location” while adding a place to a fit, the app asks iOS for your position once, while you are using it, and compares it on your device against the list of campuses and cities the app already holds, so it can put the nearest ones at the top. That coordinate is never saved, never written to a log, and never sent to us or to anyone else — it exists for the moment the list is sorted and is then gone. What your fit records is the place you picked, the same as if you had chosen it from the list by hand. You can decline, and the list works exactly as before; you can change your mind at any time in your iPhone’s Settings. If you have Precise Location turned off for FitCheck, we leave it off and suggest a city rather than a campus.
Where FitCheck is available, and who processes your data
FitCheck is offered in Switzerland and Spain. Your account, photos and messages are stored in the European Union (Supabase, eu-west-1, Ireland) and optional analytics is processed on European Union infrastructure (PostHog). Depending on where you live, your data is protected by the EU General Data Protection Regulation or the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection. Transfers between these countries rely on the adequacy decisions in force between the EU and Switzerland, and on contracts with our providers. Two features reach outside them. If you search for a GIF to react with, the words you type are sent to GIPHY, a service operated in the United States, which returns the matching GIFs. If you add a song to a fit, the words you type are sent to Apple to search Apple Music, or the Spotify link you paste is sent to Spotify, and each returns the track's title, artist and cover art; we never receive or store any audio. Nothing identifying you is sent with either, and if you never open the GIF tab or add a song, nothing is sent at all. Two more features reach a provider directly from your device. Playing a song on a fit opens that provider's own player inside the app, so Spotify or Apple can see that a device asked for that track, in the same way visiting their website would; no song plays until you tap one. Opening the map loads its background map from OpenFreeMap, which receives the request and therefore your device's IP address, and nothing about who you are or what you posted. Apart from that, we do not transfer your personal data outside these countries.
Our legal bases
We process your account, profile, posts, friendships and messages because they are necessary to provide the service you asked for (contract). We process reports, blocks, moderation records and security logs to keep the community safe and to meet our legal obligations (legitimate interests and legal obligation). We process optional product analytics only with your consent, which you can withdraw at any time. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell it.
Your rights
You can edit your profile, change privacy settings, block or report users, export or delete content, and delete your account from Settings → Account. You can ask us for a copy of your data, for corrections, for deletion, for a restriction on processing, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing rests on consent you can withdraw it without giving a reason. Write to [email protected] and we will answer within one month. If you are not satisfied you can complain to a supervisory authority: your local data protection authority in the EU, the Information Commissioner's Office in the United Kingdom, or the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner in Switzerland.
Children
FitCheck is not intended for users under 18. If we learn that a user is under 18, we will remove the account.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure; please use a strong, unique password.
Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be announced in the app.
